Tales from the Zhang Family

The Little Things in Our Family tells the story of the bonds, conflicts, and reconciliation within an ordinary family amid changing times. The Zhang family has five children, each with a very different personality. The eldest, Zhang Jianjun, is shrewd and calculating; the second, Zhang Jianmin, is idle and irresponsible; the third, Zhang Jianye, is honest and simplehearted; the fourth, Zhang Jianfen, has a sharp tongue but a kind heart; and the youngest, Zhang Jianqiang, is the family’s baby and the one everyone dotes on most.

As their father, Zhang Jianguo, grows increasingly frail, tensions over the compensation for demolishing the family’s old home begin to surface. One New Year’s Eve dinner and one careless remark reveal a secret buried for many years: the Zhang family once had another child...

With realistic, sensitive storytelling, the novel portrays the joys and sorrows of an ordinary family. It shows both the harshness of reality and the warmth of family ties, allowing readers to discover the meaning of home through laughter and tears.
