City of Dark Tides

Freelance journalist Su Wan is drawn into a conspiracy after photographing the case of real estate developer Lin Zhengxiong falling to his death. Her camera and text messages on Lin Zhengxiong's phone point to her as a suspect. As the investigation deepens, Su Wan, police detective Chen Mo, and Professor Zhou Zhengping discover that the case is connected to unpaid wages owed to migrant workers and the looting of Ming Dynasty treasure-ship relics. During the investigation, people from the lowest rungs of society, including Li Jianguo, are caught up in the affair, exposing collusion between developers and an overseas smuggling ring, as well as the transfer of benefits within the government. After enduring threats and pursuit, the group deciphers a Ming Dynasty sea chart and uncovers the historical link between the sinking of the treasure ships and modern-day crimes. They ultimately destroy the criminal network, while Su Wan also uncovers the truth behind her father's fall from a building twenty years ago. In Bincheng, justice and reflection drive the search for a balance between development and preservation.
