Power over the Inner Palace: The Phoenix Hides in Ninefold Towers

She is Shen Mingtang, the orphaned daughter of a military family. She sheds her armor for palace robes and enters this resplendent cage that devours people. The world thinks she is trying to marry into power, but they don’t know that every step is steeped in blood and tears. All she wants is to uncover the shocking conspiracy behind her father and brothers’ deaths on the battlefield.

The emperor praises her beauty, while the noble consort mocks her rough manners. She accepts every blade aimed at her, kneels in the snow until she is unbreakable, and quietly reveals her silver needles to heal the sick. One skill astonishes the court, and undercurrents surge. The emperor’s fingertips brush the old scar on her wrist as he speaks words that sound like a prophecy: “My beloved consort, that hand of yours should wield the phoenix seal.”

Through ten years in the inner palace, she is like a master weaver. The discarded physician is her eyes and ears, spying on the palace’s hidden intrigues. The unfavored concubine is her blade, stirring up the court. The palace maid who commands the hidden guards is her sharpest claw beneath the cover of night... An invisible web quietly unfurls, ensnaring hearts and capturing every enemy.

When long-sealed ancestral tablets see the light of day again, the truth tears apart the court’s hypocritical facade. The once-patient orphan finally stands atop the nine-tiered palace. With bloodied fingertips, she teasingly lifts the emperor’s chin. Her phoenix eyes are cold, her smile is sharp as a knife:

“Your Majesty, I’ve... finished this game of chess for you.”
