The Car Thief Has No Shadow

At forty-five, Wang Liang used a bicycle of dubious origin to shatter the respectable life he had so carefully maintained. He is a low-ranking bank clerk, an insecure husband, and, worst of all, a father his son despises. His late father once trapped him in the shadow of an imposing presence; his mother left overseas, taking the last trace of warmth with her; his rebellious son blames him for crushing his dreams; and his wife has finally turned away in disappointment. From the boy who hid cigarette butts to the middle-aged man who raised a butcher’s knife, his shadow has been consumed bit by bit by insecurity and humiliation. When a policeman’s extortion and his son’s desperate, furious cries become the fuse, the farce that began with a stolen bicycle will end in bloody revenge. In an abyss where lies and truth intertwine, who is the pitiful soul crushed by life? And what suffocating twist is concealed in the darkness?
