My Days as a Migrant Worker in Guangdong

After graduating from college, Chen Zhiyuan leaves Nanjing and heads south to Guangdong. From an intern at a foreign trade company to a sales representative at an electronics factory in Shenzhen, he grows and changes through years of drifting from job to job. When he first arrives in Foshan, he meets Zhou Qiang and his family, who become like a teacher and a brother to him, and finds the warmth of home far from his own. After moving to Shenzhen, he gets involved with Huang Xiaowen, a lively assembly-line worker, and Liu Yuqing, a gentle quality-control team leader, but both relationships come to nothing because of real-life circumstances.

Then he meets Zhang Yating, a Hakka girl from Longyan, Fujian. They grow close and fall in love, only to face fierce opposition from her family. Hakka traditions, demands for a hefty bride price, and expectations that she return to her hometown to marry all become practical obstacles to their love. Chen Zhiyuan must establish himself in his career and prove that he is someone she can rely on before he can bridge the divide between their regions and cultures and protect this hard-won relationship.
