Fu Shengge awoke in the divine realm with no memories, accompanied only by Xiaobai, a snow-white divine beast.
To reclaim her past, she ventured into fragments of time spanning from the Xia and Shang dynasties to the distant future, taking on the lives of mortals in each era.
When the Nine Tripods were stolen in the Xia dynasty, she watched a woman general feed herself to a taotie to protect the land.
When oracle bones foretold disaster in the Shang dynasty, she helped the diviner Yan burn himself to foil a plot involving a chiwen.
Amid the schemes and strife of the Warring States period, she stood atop the walls of Handan, guided Xiaobai’s transformation into a bai ze, and debated the scholars into ending the fighting.
At a lunar base in the future, she ran her fingers over a star map and sighed, “The rise and fall of civilization ebbs and flows like the tides, but human nature’s light and darkness have never changed.”
When the final fragment of memory appeared at the Gate of Guixu, Xiaobai nuzzled her palm and gave a soft cry:
“Master, whether you were once the creator god or the destroyer, Xiaobai will always be by your side.”
Fu Shengge smiled and pushed open the door. Behind her, countless rivers of stars flowed through the myriad realms of time.
