Walking the Abyss: From Rising Star in the Military Intelligence Bureau to Red Ace

In 1938, Wuhan falls, and the Chinese nation sinks into its darkest hour. Shen Ye, a chemical engineer who has returned from studying in Germany, gives his life for his country during the Defense of Wuhan. Spotted by senior military intelligence officials, he is ordered to go undercover. Codenamed “Yangtze No. 1,” he becomes a “technical prodigy” in the eyes of the Japanese and their puppet regime, and a rising undercover star trusted by military intelligence. Yet no one knows his true codename: “Steel Needle.” Forged by the CCP’s Special Operations Section like a steel needle, he carries the red faith of his forebears. After infiltrating military intelligence, he slips once more into the heart of the Japanese and their puppet regime, walking on a knife’s edge above the abyss. He navigates between the brutal Japanese invaders, the treacherous Wang Jingwei regime, the suspicious military intelligence service, and the steadfast underground party. He also faces three women with entirely different identities and allegiances: a red beacon lighting the way for his beliefs, a blue rose bound to him by a fatal attraction and a love-hate relationship, and a clear spring in a chaotic age who stirs his compassion and guides his growth. Every intelligence handoff brings a brush with death; every change of identity leaves him on the verge of exposure. This is a story of disguise and loyalty, passion and faith. Watch Shen Ye stir up a storm under three identities, temper himself in the currents of history, and grow from a rising star in military intelligence into a red ace who strikes fear into the enemy!
