Jiang Xiaotang is a little-known, lazy screenwriter whose motto is, “If I can lie down, I won't sit; if I can stay single, I won't date.” That is, until she mistakes top-tier star Shen Che's fan sign for the marriage registration office outside the Civil Affairs Bureau and, emboldened by alcohol, grabs him: “Hey, handsome, want to get married?”
She thought it was just a ridiculous misunderstanding, but Shen Che smiled and pulled out his household register. “Sure. I happen to need a wife, too.”
After they marry, Jiang Xiaotang discovers that her “bargain husband” isn't just a drama queen, he's a walking script library!
In the morning, he's a domineering CEO, tilting her chin up with a wicked smile. “Woman, it's time to shoot today's kissing scene.”
At noon, he switches into yandere mode and stares at her eerily. “If you dare divorce me, I'll write you into a bad-ending script.”
At night, he turns into the hero of a costume romance, gazing at her tenderly. “My dear, it's time for bed.”
Jiang Xiaotang: “...Teacher Shen, can your character fall apart any more completely?”
And things get even more outrageous:
The whole internet accuses her of riding the movie star's coattails. She fires back with their marriage certificate. “Sorry, we're legally married. I can ride his coattails all I want!”
Haters mock her for writing cliched, melodramatic web novels. She smiles and retorts, “If you can do better, then do it. If not, shut up!”
When his first love tries to drive a wedge between them, Jiang Xiaotang tosses her the script One Hundred Ways to Tear Apart a White Lotus. “Girl, follow the script. Don't go off-book.”
Shen Che: “My wife is so cute.”
Jiang Xiaotang: “...Get a grip!”
