The Top Star Next Door Is My Childhood Friend

What kind of immortal does one cultivate?

What kind of god does one become?

The path of cultivation is not merely defying heaven; it is also seeking the Way within one's heart.

The road to godhood is not merely attaining boundless power; it is also enduring tribulations and understanding one's nature.

“Heaven's Way is compassionate. Why, then, do all living beings still suffer?”

In this world, Heaven's Way has feelings. It sends down spiritual rain to nourish all things, lays out the stars to guide the lost, and uses its own laws to keep cultivators from wantonly killing mortals.

Yet even so, there is still sickness and chaos.

Jiang Shaoan once asked an elder of his sect, “If Heaven's Way is benevolent, why doesn't it simply put an end to all the world's suffering?”

“Though Heaven's Way is compassionate, it cannot choose on behalf of all living beings. It bestows spiritual energy, cultivation arts, and opportunities, but the road must be walked by each person themselves.”

…

“My Dao… has always been you.”

Born with a peerless physique suited to the emotionless path, he chose the path of devotion for one person.

The tribulation of wind and snow tempers the body; the tribulation of mortal life refines the heart.

Jiang Shaoan would save all living beings, even if it cost him his life;

Zhou Yuhuai would save him, even if it meant defying Heaven's will.

What kind of immortal does one cultivate?

Is it Jiang Shaoan's “Way of the World,” or Zhou Yuhuai's “Way of One”?

What kind of god does one become?

A saint who protects all the people, or a lovesick fool who protects only one?

Perhaps the answer was there all along:

Jiang Shaoan showed Zhou Yuhuai the hardships of all living beings and taught him how difficult it is simply to survive;

Zhou Yuhuai helped Jiang Shaoan understand that “to save the world, you must first save yourself.”
