Phoenix: A Silent Vow

A deafening explosion in the rainforests of southwest China took An Ran’s life, leaving behind an unfinished marriage application and her concern for her younger sister, Su Tang. Lei Zhan and Harley clutched the bloodstained letter she had left behind and swore to protect the girl they had never met. Three months later, a stubborn figure quietly appeared at the selection trials for the women’s special forces: Su Tang. Wearing the silver whistle her cousin had left her, she concealed her resemblance to An Ran and resolved to enter the world of “Fire Phoenix” through her own efforts.

On the training ground, she used the grit of a taekwondo black belt to conquer obstacle after obstacle, even as Harley’s stern reprimands and Lei Zhan’s cold gaze followed her everywhere. At night in camp, she would touch her cousin’s letters alone, turning her longing into motivation to train. When the handwriting in her tactical vest pocket revealed who she was, those “Old Fox” and “King of Hell” figures An Ran had always bragged about, along with the comrades her cousin had called “so cool to ride Harley with,” finally understood that the girl before them was not only the sister of someone they had lost, but also a future soldier carrying a blazing conviction.

From gritting her teeth through a five-kilometer cross-country run to Harley’s silent protection during live-fire drills; from life-or-death rescues on a simulated battlefield to the solemn presentation of the Fire Phoenix insignia, Su Tang transforms through sweat and tears. And the silver whistle engraved with the sisters’ names will one day sound through the smoke of battle, playing a song of legacy passed down between two generations of women soldiers.
