The Sins and Redemption of Multiple Personalities

Lin Shen is an urbane office worker who appears warm and courteous, living a life that is orderly but empty. Then one day, he finds an unfamiliar woman’s corpse in his apartment, with a bloodstained knife in his hand. Memory gaps and a confused sense of identity plunge him into unprecedented terror: he discovers that he has multiple personalities, and one of them, “Shadow,” is a serial killer. Criminal Investigation Captain Lu Chen identifies Lin Shen through DNA evidence, but his investigation reveals that Lin Shen has at least seven distinctly different personalities: the calm “Logician,” the disguise expert “Actor,” the perceptive “Empath,” the violent “Shadow,” and more. Each is independent, yet they share one body and know nothing of the others’ crimes.

As murders continue and the police close in, Lin Shen’s personalities are forced to work together. They have 48 hours to uncover Shadow’s pattern and stop the next killing. Lu Chen is secretly connected to Lin Shen through an unsolved child abuse case from ten years ago. He helps with the investigation behind the scenes, but in the process uncovers the shocking truth behind Shadow’s creation: when Lin Shen witnessed his parents’ brutal deaths as a child, his anger and despair split off into an evil personality that sees killing as redemption.

Caught between the struggle among his personalities, the police pursuit, and fragments of memory, Lin Shen gradually realizes that “redemption” means more than preventing crime. It also means confronting his childhood trauma and accepting every fractured part of himself. Finally, just as Shadow prepares to commit the ultimate crime, the story leaves readers with an open ending!
