Literary energy shields his body, and he embarks on the path of cultivation! The young ladies of the Grand View Garden are dazzled: this illegitimate son can compose a poem in seven steps and has the makings of a top scholar? When fire breaks out in the palace during Yuan Chun’s visit home, his keen eyes spot it in time to prevent disaster! He copies books to earn silver and channels literary energy into medicine. He keeps a low profile and bides his time, waiting to stun the world in the imperial examinations! When Jia Zheng dismisses him as a schemer who dabbles in petty tricks, and Grandmother Jia calls him sly and devious, news of his victories crashes through the Rongguo Mansion like thunder: top in the county exams, first in the prefectural exams, top in the academy exams, second in the provincial exams, top in the metropolitan exams, and finally the top scorer in the palace exam... On the battlefield, literary energy becomes a sword that slays enemy armies. In the imperial court, he earns the top honors in all six examinations and is ennobled before the emperor! Power and wealth come rolling in, and beautiful women fall for him. Lin Daiyu no longer weeps herself dry in the Xiaoxiang Pavilion, Xue Baochai admires him all the more, and the twelve beauties of Jinling, once far above his station, all come under his sway? When the Embroidered Uniform Guard arrives with an imperial order to confiscate the family’s estate, Jia Huan sits calmly in the main hall, the imperial sword in hand, and says, “Grandmother, please take the seat of honor. Today, it’s time to settle all our accounts!” Combining Confucian and martial cultivation, he defies fate. In this Red Chamber, Jia Huan will call the shots!
