Reborn in the 1980s: The Old Lady's Face-Slapping Life

Li Sulan has lived different lives, first in the garment industry and then in the food industry. Born in 1970 in a state-owned factory's residential compound in Northeast China, she is abandoned at a nursing home by her son and daughter-in-law in 2025 after being diagnosed with lung cancer. Before she dies, she discovers that her daughter collapsed at her sanitation job while trying to raise money for her surgery, and that her husband had transferred the demolition compensation to his mistress's daughter ten years earlier. The instant she closes her eyes, her soul travels back to 1985. At twenty-five, six months pregnant, she stands in the factory workers' canteen as her mother-in-law points at her and curses, "You can't bear a son, so the family line will die out." The cabbage stems in her hands fall onto the grease-stained floor.
