Earth Picked the Wrong Tech Tree

Earth took a wrong turn on the tech tree. Humanity reached the pinnacle in every other field while overlooking one remarkably simple technology, and as a result, never managed to achieve interstellar travel. Aliens mastered space-jump technology, and countless openly hostile ships appeared in the skies above Earth. But in a shocking twist, the invaders’ military was only on par with humanity in the age of flintlock rifles. Against humans armed with missiles and other weapons, they were laughably weak. After the war, eight billion people on Earth had mastered the aliens’ space-jump technology. Like rabid dogs let off their leashes, they began invading the universe in turn. Will humanity rule the cosmos, or will it become part of the dark forest?
