[1v1, reunion after a long separation, arguably a rekindled romance, both are each other’s first and only, coercion, possessiveness, redemption, split between the school years and the present, with flashbacks and a nonlinear timeline]
Tang Chaoyu first meets Jin Mo in a bamboo grove on her way to school.
It is raining, and the boy’s shirt is soaked through.
After that, it seems that every day connected to him comes with rain.
Tang Chaoyu thinks Jin Mo is strange. He walks in the rain without an umbrella, sleeps through class, gets zeros on every exam, and is always cold and distant.
He even breaks her favorite umbrella.
On a drizzly day, Jin Mo is asleep at his desk when the faint sound of crying wakes him.
Squinting, he sees the girl with her eyes red from crying. She looks just like a pitiful little white rabbit in a laboratory.
He must still be half asleep, because he actually speaks first. “Stop crying. I’ll tutor you.”
As it turns out, he’s been hiding how capable he is all along.
From then on, she pushes her luck and gradually invades his life.
“Jin Mo, be my boyfriend. I’ll be a really good girlfriend.”
When they reunite seven years later, he has become a brilliant professor, cool and self-possessed, while she is a complete mess after losing both her job and her boyfriend.
Ever since the rainy day he found her in a bar, it seems something has begun rippling again…
He means to keep his feelings in check, but she keeps turning up right in front of him.
After a passionate night together, he whispers, “Tang Chaoyu, don’t think I’ll ever let you go.”
She has no choice but to give in so she can pay for her father’s treatment.
Tang Chaoyu clearly remembers that her pursuit of him ended in failure back then.
Yet after their reunion, Jin Mo always seems to treat her with inexplicable hostility, or perhaps hatred.
Could it be that after failing to win him over, she’s now going to be resented for it too?
