After Breaking Off My Engagement, I Became the Emperor's Favorite

[A mighty regent fiercely protects his wife, while a seemingly sweet, soft little rabbit is actually a clear-eyed transmigrator] Liu Jingshu had just broken off her engagement to Prince Ning and asked to leave the palace when she ran into the regent returning victorious from battle. She thought it was nothing more than a coincidence. Who could have guessed... Ever since Imperial Uncle rescued little Ali, she couldn't help feeling unsettled by the way he looked at her. She was only a guest he had taken in, so why were the wives of officials all sending her calling cards and begging for a chance to pay their respects? Zhao Zhang had finally seen the woman he loved break off her engagement. How could he risk letting them get back together? Of course he would compete and fight for her, winning her over first and worrying about the rest later. Everyone said the regent was ruthless and had a terrible temper. Then, at a palace banquet, the regent reprimanded the Empress Dowager for selling official posts, his words sharp and forceful. But then he turned around and soothed his future princess consort. “Why are you upset? I bow and scrape before you. Why shed tears for someone who isn't worth it? Silly girl.” From then on, the court realized that the dynasty was about to change and that it was time to pick a side. They assumed the regent's return to the capital meant he would depose the young emperor and seize the throne. Who could have expected him to kneel beside his princess consort, holding out the imperial seal... “Your humble subject Zhao Zhang begs Your Majesty for mercy!”
