Lectures on the Awakening of Faith in the Mahayana

The word "great" encompasses the meaning of inclusion. "Vehicle" refers to its function of carrying. To arise is to set one's mind toward an object; to believe is to accept and firmly affirm. A treatise provisionally establishes a host and guest, develops its arguments through questions and answers, determines the correct principles, and dispels wrong views. It is distinguished from the sutras and the precepts, hence the name "treatise."
