A cold, aloof princess whose homeland has fallen opens a weaving shop in the East Sea.
She can tell fortunes and knows all the world's workings. One day, an exceptionally handsome “jiao-man” shows up at her shop.
He claims his tears turn into pearls, and says he can weave, work, and make her happy.
But she sees that he lies habitually, is sly and lazy, and talks a good game. With one glance, she figures out that this strange man isn't a jiao at all, but a “dragon prince” fallen from the heavens.
By rights, she ought to capture him, interrogate him, and cook him in a stew.
But she's too lazy, and this strange sea creature might not even taste good in a stew.
So she hires this “fake jiao” as a shop assistant. Though she knows he's hiding a huge secret, she still collects his pearls every day, wears the cloth he weaves, and listens to his silly jokes.
He thinks he's carefully plotting every move, but she saw through his tricks long ago. She's just too lazy to call him out.
One pretends to be foolish, the other pretends to be blind.
Jiao pearls, dragon schemes, the fading embers of a fallen kingdom, and turmoil in the mortal world are all hidden behind this “business deal.”
She thinks he came to win her heart.
But he discovers that she had already accounted for him in her destiny.
