The Way of the Current's Opposite

Niliuzhe spans eight decades, telling the tumultuous story of Han Chun, who transforms from an infant born in the old society into the "soul of water management" in the digital age. Amid undercurrents of family conflict, he loses his father in childhood and suffers abuse at the hands of his sister-in-law, Han Liushi. His water conservancy career is repeatedly sabotaged, yet his mother's patience and wisdom help forge his resilience to struggle against the current. After reform and opening up, he breaks through with ecological aquaculture and uses technology to contend with the tides of his era, witnessing his children rewrite the family's fate with blockchain and gene editing. As he nears death, his cancer-ravaged body becomes a flood of data, and a century of grudges is sealed inside an intelligent dam, where his AI consciousness carries on the mission of water management forever. From blood debts beneath a well to an ancestral hall in the metaverse, from mule-bell caravans to quantum immortality, this family history reflects a century of upheaval in China and asks how suffering can be turned into poetry by swimming against the current.
