Burning Heart: The Mad Emperor Begs Me Through Tears to Forgive Him

“Pei Xuanji, you taught me what love was, and then you taught me what hatred was.”

Chu Qin was once the most dazzling jewel in the capital, the cherished daughter of a distinguished military family, brilliant and extraordinary.

She was never meant to fall in love with that lofty emperor, but he deliberately laid his plans step by step, luring her into his trap

He would “happen” to cross paths with her while she practiced swordsmanship, smiling as he conceded defeat and asked to be punished;

When she fell into the water, he would leap into the icy lake without hesitation and hold her tight in his arms;

On her birthday, he would place a phoenix hairpin in her hair with his own hands and whisper, “Qin'er, I will never betray you in this life.”

She believed him.

But on their wedding night, he made her kneel outside the hall and listen as he took his concubine to bed;

When she was pregnant, he looked on coldly as she was forced to drink a potion that ended her pregnancy;

The day her entire family was slaughtered, he lifted her chin and laughed softly. “Chu Qin, did you really think I could love you?”

So all his tenderness had been an illusion.

So she had been nothing but the stupidest piece on his chessboard.

Years later, she became a high-ranking female official in an enemy kingdom. When they met on the battlefield, Pei Xuanji stared at her familiar face, and the jade cup in his hand shattered.

She curled her red lips into a smile and held her sword to his throat. “Your Majesty, it’s been a long time.”

“You destroyed my family back then. Today, I’ll take your empire from you.”

“Fair enough, don’t you think?”

Later

He willingly became her prisoner, just so she might look at him once.

If only he had known, why did he do it in the first place?
