Zhang Man escapes the mountains’ backward customs and marriage traditions. One night, in a small county town, she crosses paths with Chi Shou, who is racing through the streets. He is out in the open, while she stays in the shadows; he is committing a crime, and she witnesses it all. Later, with nowhere else to turn, Zhang Man takes a job at a Jiang City club. Little does she know this is where their lives will become entangled.
At the club, she finds herself trapped in another dark corner. Desperate for a glimmer of light, she finds something to hold on to: the club owner. He shows her a small kindness, and she stubbornly makes him her ideal. Chi Shou sees it all, but it only gives him more reason to seek her out.
But lies always come to light. When Zhang Man discovers the truth, she resolutely uses Chi Shou to escape the club.
Their relationship begins with an unequal encounter at the club. They take each other’s hands and walk into the future together, with no ending in sight.
