Diary of an Immortal

Synopsis of The Immortality Diary

The protagonist is obsessed with the secret of immortality. Taking the Huangdi Neijing as his foundation, he delves into the wisdom of health cultivation in the words “follow the principles of yin and yang, and harmonize with the arts and numbers.” He draws inspiration from the account that “the people of ancient times ate and drank in moderation and kept regular hours,” then explores ways to extend life through the theory of the twelve meridians and the circulation of qi and blood.

He also scours ancient texts, seeking tales of longevity in the marvels of the Classic of Mountains and Seas and studying methods of preserving youth in Daoist alchemy scriptures. From a young man’s naive curiosity about life to an old man’s unwavering pursuit of eternity, he puts theory into practice. He experiments with dietary therapy guided by the Five Phases and Six Qi, practices exercises such as the Eight Brocades and Five-Animal Frolics, and seeks to understand life’s mysteries through trials with herbs, breathing techniques, and meditation.

His diary records the joy of sudden insight while plumbing the classics, as well as the dangers of going into qi deviation after misjudging yin and yang or violating the Five Phases. It captures both his profound understanding that “the root of life lies in yin and yang” and his bewilderment when experiments fail. As his research deepens, his body and understanding undergo a transformation, gradually bringing him into contact with life’s hidden dimensions. As the secret of immortality draws near, he falls into deep thought: is this a chance to transcend life and death, or a curse that will doom him forever? This diary, steeped in a thousand years of wisdom and his own painstaking efforts, will ultimately reveal the final answer to immortality.
