Starting with Awakening as Sequence 399: White Bone Spirit

Slow burn + urban high martial arts + urban supernatural powers + mythological calamity sequences + apocalypse + not a survival story about fleeing disaster.

This is not a story about fleeing disaster or building a shelter to survive. The System tags are inaccurate, so please read with caution.

This is a world where rifts open, calamities invade, and humans awaken supernatural abilities to fight off the invading monsters.

Those who awaken sequences 1 to 100 are known as Awakened. They hold all the Alliance's seats of power.

Those who awaken sequences 101 to 299, the Eastern Mythology sequences, are instead called Calamities and are persecuted and hunted by the Alliance.

Eastern Mythology sequences come with a curse: the body and bones absorb vast amounts of energy. If the body runs low on energy, the person becomes ravenously hungry, loses their reason, and descends into madness. By contrast, Western-sequence Awakened absorb little energy. Food and drink are enough to sustain them, and they do not go mad from hunger.

As a result, once Western Mythology Awakened seize power, they do everything they can to hunt down Awakened of the Eastern Mythology sequences.

They fear that if the Eastern Mythology Awakened break the hunger curse, they will threaten their position.

Any person or institution researching ways to suppress hunger and reduce the energy absorbed by Calamity sequences is subjected to relentless persecution.

Only the Alliance's Xia Kingdom still preserves the Dawn Project, intended to benefit humanity.

Ji Fuyou is unlucky enough to awaken sequence 299, the lowest-ranked sequence: White Bone Spirit.

He has to survive!

While fiercely resisting the pursuit of the Alliance's Abnormal Incident Response Bureau,

he struggles to find a way to eradicate his hunger and keep himself from losing his reason.
