Life at Dusk

Late one night, while working overtime, architectural designer Su Wanqing receives a call from the nursing home: her father has had another episode. At work, Chen Mo, the company’s newly appointed director, questions her design philosophy, leaving her squeezed between career pressure and family burdens.

Her father, who has Alzheimer’s disease, has etched the outline of an old classroom at the art academy into the nursing home wall. This detail brings back events from twenty years ago. Back when he taught at the academy, her father clashed with the school’s reformists for insisting on traditional oil-painting techniques. The present and the past mingle amid the smell of disinfectant and turpentine. Su Wanqing discovers that the classroom window her father drew holds a secret: seemingly haphazard lines conceal unfinished portraits.
