Schemes at Phoenix Palace: Gold-Tempered Branches

Synopsis of The Phoenix Tower's Gambit: Gold Branch Tempered

Core concept: A classical political intrigue epic built on a battle of equals, with female awakening at its heart. It blends the survival savvy of farming stories with the pulse-pounding twists of palace and household intrigue, setting a new standard for “the ultimate intellectual romance.”

Main story

Beauty as a blade, strategy as a shield

Shen Zhaoyi, a concubine-born daughter, is cast aside in the northern frontier because of her Western Regions ancestry. She survives in a remote village with the Western Regions' Compendium of a Hundred Poisons, improves looms, and builds a caravan to secretly control the economic lifeline, becoming the Cloudweaver Pavilion's master and a force shaking the court. Xiao Heng, son of the regent, pretends to be a spoiled playboy while commanding the Black-Robed Guards. The two clash over a salt and iron case, moving from mutual exploitation to entrusting each other with their lives in a battle of wits: “You set the trap, I break it.”

Clear-eyed surrender amid bloody political intrigue

Household intrigue: Shen Zhaoyi returns to the marquis's manor and uses her elder legitimate sister's adultery scandal to undermine the great clans. She kills her legitimate mother's henchmen with poison and advances step by step to the heart of her family's power.

Palace intrigue: Disguised as a concubine's medical attendant, she uses a witchcraft case to bring down the empress and supports the Ninth Prince's bid for the throne. But after the danger passes, she is cast aside. In the end, she joins forces with Xiao Heng to launch the Xuanwu Gate coup and name the young sister of the reigning empress as heir.

An epic of women's awakening

Shen Zhaoyi establishes the Phoenix Song Academy for women, taking in abandoned girls and divorced women and teaching them military strategy and medicine. She issues the Women's Household Law, abolishing the practice of selling wives, and uses equal land distribution to break the clans' monopoly. From the inner palace to the court, she tears through the chains of feudal society and writes a legend proving that women, too, can rule the realm.
