In the impoverished northern Shaanxi Plateau of the 1960s, Hei Wa is born into the destitute Gaojiamao village. He rises from a life of hunger to become the biggest coal magnate in northern Shaanxi, buys land and homes in the major cities of Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen, goes from businessman to civil servant, and ultimately lands in prison. After serving his time and turning his life around, he gives back to society and helps the people around him, living a remarkable life!
