The Background Character in the Buddhist Heartthrob’s Story Is Everyone’s Darling

As you can see, this was originally a classic example of a dual-male-lead story about a Buddhist-minded tycoon in Beijing chasing his wife after driving her away. Here’s the plot in a nutshell: The male lead has an icy expression, prayer beads wrapped around his wrist, a cold and ruthless personality, and a vicious, cutthroat business style. But they say he has practiced Buddhism for twelve years, earning him the nickname “the Buddha of Beijing’s elite circles.” The other male lead was spoiled by his family until the age of twenty-two. He’s lazy and arrogant, and spends his days racing cars, partying, and hanging out at nightclubs. In short, he’s a pretty young playboy. A marriage arranged between their families brings these two strangers together. In the course of this business alliance, they begin a sweet “marriage first, love later” romance. Now that you’ve read the summary, there’s one piece of good news and one piece of bad news. The bad news is that this story about the Buddha of Beijing’s elite circles is hardly a masterpiece. The characters are overpowered heirs, the plot is a tired old melodrama, and the romance consists of two separate solo performances and an audience that gets moved by them. The good news is that our protagonist isn’t an important character in this story. She’s not a good guy or a villain, either. She’s just an ordinary passerby who appears briefly in a couple of lines.
