From 1959 to 1961, droughts struck northern Hebei and Heilongjiang, while floods ravaged the Huai River Basin, the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River, and the Pearl River Delta in the south. These natural disasters lasted for three years, leaving countless people homeless and grieving the loss of loved ones! Li Hongzhang, the village chief, was commissioned by Xinyang Commune in Sheyang County to lead some villagers from Lijiazao to the disaster-stricken areas in the north and south. They saved countless lives and faithfully fulfilled their organization’s mission.
