Lin Yang is a fake Taoist priest who cannot even afford yellow paper and cinnabar. His ancestral Three Purities Temple is about to be demolished. One day, while splashing dog blood on a vengeful ghost, he accidentally activates the Underworld Spokesperson System and binds himself to a projection of the Great Emperor of Fengdu, dressed in a suit and tie. This Underworld CEO immediately tries to sell him a "trial version of the Black and White Impermanence statues," complete with automatic lifetime renewal fees deducted from his remaining years.
To save the temple, Lin Yang is forced to set up a stall at the night market selling "consecrated deity statues." The Judge statue he sells to a female CEO automatically edits her work emails in the middle of the night, adding comments like, "This proposal will cost you virtue." A teenager's Ox-Head and Horse-Face statues become internet celebrities, and real ghosts watching their livestreams fill the chat with "high-alert warning" messages. A hot-tempered policewoman's Zhong Kui statue catches thieves and does the dance from Subject Three, but keeps mistaking cockroaches for demons.
However, the Underworld's gods are sealed by the Celestial Court over a copyright dispute. Lin Yang must sell 1,000 statues every month to keep the netherworld in existence. The System shop's Palm Thunder spell requires a Plus subscription to strike real ghosts, and looking up the Book of Life and Death requires facial recognition. Scanning a ghost's face brings up the message, "Nonhuman users, please visit the underworld edition." Even worse, every time he summons a high-level deity statue, he has to sit through an ad first: "This program is exclusively sponsored by Meng Po's Soup."
When the Ten Thousand Demons Society creates resentment bombs, Lin Yang urgently summons Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva, only for the Bodhisattva to say, "Benefactor, please scan the code to pay your merit points." In the end, Lin Yang discovers that he is the reincarnation of the Night Wandering God, betrayed by the Celestial Court. And behind the Great Emperor of Fengdu's unscrupulous businessman persona lies the truth of a thousand-year-old pact…
