In the quiet, peaceful town of Qingyan, people have long relied on the flourishing incense offerings to sustain their faith in the protection of ghosts and gods. Recently, however, a series of strange incidents has taken place. First, children began mysteriously disappearing. Then, incense ash in the temples spontaneously caught fire. A pall of fear quickly spread over the entire town.
Young Daoist Lin Yu, devoted to the art of Daoism and eager to investigate the bizarre, set out for Qingyan as soon as he heard of its troubles. There, he met Su Yao, the town magistrate's daughter, and the two joined forces to uncover the truth. As their investigation deepened, they discovered that the strange events were closely connected to a wronged general who had died a hundred years ago and a resentful Black-Robed Ghost. The ghost intended to disrupt the balance of incense offerings in Qingyan and draw strength from people's fear to exact revenge.
Lin Yu had to contend with the Black-Robed Ghost's covert interference and attacks, while also facing the magistrate and others' distrust and attempts to drive him out. But with unshakable faith and Su Yao's full support, he gradually uncovered the truth amid one danger after another. To stop the ghost, Lin Yu rushed to Mount Longhu to seek help. After returning, he faced the Black-Robed Ghost in a heart-pounding final showdown. Su Yao discovered that restoring incense offerings at an abandoned shrine could weaken the ghost. In the end, thanks to everyone's efforts, the Black-Robed Ghost was successfully sealed away, and peace returned to Qingyan. Through these trials, Lin Yu and Su Yao also grew ever closer.
