After Burying Three Fiancés, the Young Lady Marries a Stubborn Man

Chi Anning, the eldest daughter of the Chi family, is fair-skinned, beautiful, and blessed with long legs. Yet she was born frail and sickly, coughing and spitting blood every few steps. Doctors have declared that she won't live past twenty. When the old lady of the Chi family grows desperate, she turns to a fortune-teller to change the eldest daughter's fate. The master's verdict: the young lady's fate is too fragile, and she needs a man to bring her good fortune. But every man the young lady takes a liking to runs into trouble before they can even get married. After the third such incident, the young lady earns the title of husband-killing jinx. Furious, she takes in a handsome young man who is just as sickly as she is. The young man is gentle and handsome, one of a kind, but even frailer than the young lady. Everyone says the young man has a death wish, risking his life for wealth and glory. Everyone is waiting to see which sickly one will die first: him or the young lady. Unexpectedly, the sickly young man and the young lady make a perfect match. Not only do their healths improve, but the young man grows more and more defiant, even daring to talk back to her. When the young lady tells him to go east, he goes west. When she tells him to be on the bottom, he insists on being on top. He infuriates the young lady so much that she recovers from most of her illness. Much later, the young lady is framed and falls from grace. The handsome young man whom everyone looked down on protects her with imperial authority and helps her rise to the top again. At night, her handsome young man holds her close and whispers in her ear over and over: “Once a young lady, always a young lady. If you live, I live. If you die, I die.” “I will never let anyone bully my young lady!!!”
