The Day My Engagement Was Broken, I Married the Living King of Hell

Su Tangyue’s world came crashing down when a letter breaking off her engagement made her the laughingstock of the entire capital.

Her father thought she had disgraced him and made her kneel in the snow as punishment.

Her older brother took his anger out on her by shoving her into an icy winter lake, leaving her with a lifelong illness from the cold.

Her stepmother controlled her marriage prospects, intending to wed her to a dissolute man who was ugly beyond compare.

Desperate, she clutched the hem of his robe. “Would you be willing to marry me?”

Si Yan: “You won’t regret it?”

From then on, someone stood by her and gave her a place to call her own.

Si Yan was a powerful, high-ranking confidant of the emperor. Ruthless in his dealings, he was a wolf among the court officials, feared by all. His reputation could hardly have been worse.

Everyone waited to see Su Tangyue make a fool of herself. But to their surprise, Si Yan treated her with the utmost tenderness. He defied everyone to clear her name and even set aside his pride to buy a hot spring villa from the Grand Princess, all to help her recover from her illness. She became the envy of every noblewoman in the capital.

People sneered, “So what if he dotes on you? Without a child to secure your place, you’ll never be a real woman.”

Later, as the truth of her origins gradually came to light, Si Yan was drawn into court intrigues over an old case. To keep Su Tangyue from being implicated, he petitioned the emperor for a divorce and left for the south. But Su Tangyue appeared in public with a very pregnant belly. Everyone was stunned! Hadn’t they said the couple couldn’t have children? Then whose baby was she carrying?

Aboard the boat, Su Tangyue thrust out her pregnant belly and tossed the divorce papers at Si Yan. “Fine, we can divorce. I’ll take the baby and marry someone else right away!”

Si Yan panicked. He hurried to his feet, pulled her into his arms, and coaxed her gently. “No divorce. I’d rather die than divorce you!”
