Xiao Ye is a warmhearted rich kid and a terrible student. Lu Diyi is a cold, well-behaved top student living under someone else’s roof.
He transfers schools for her. After Lu Diyi turns down Xiao Ye’s confession several times, she agrees to be his girlfriend if he can get into a prestigious university. From then on, he throws himself into his studies, barely sleeping or eating, and ultimately transforms from a hopeless student into a top scholar.
With Xiao Ye’s optimism, cheerfulness, and companionship, Lu Diyi, whose difficult family background has left her insecure to the core, slowly steps out of the shadows and into the light, learning to believe in herself.
She tutors him for free. They agree to attend the same university, and she even gives up her recommendation admission offer for him.
But on the day the college entrance exam results come out, Xiao Ye’s mother, Ye Lan, comes to see her. “Take this one million yuan and leave my son. You come from two different worlds. With this money, you can save your uncle, and you won’t have to marry an old man.”
She takes the money and leaves in tears.
She sends him word that she has fallen for someone else.
After locking himself away for several days, he goes abroad to study, full of resentment.
Seven years later, Xiao Ye is the new president of Xiao Group. At a charity gala, he sees the woman he has been searching for over the past seven years.
He steps in front of her. “Lu Diyi, did you spend that one million so quickly?” Then he notices she is still wearing the custom bracelet he gave her in high school, engraved with both their names.
The second time they meet, he says, “I’m the landlord. I said you could rent the place, but I never said I wouldn’t live there.”
The third time, she’s drunk at a hotel. “Lu Diyi, I stopped blaming you a long time ago. I only blame myself for not finding you sooner. I know you must have had your reasons. If you don’t want to tell me, then don’t. Just tell me you still love me, and it’ll make up for all the hurt I’ve endured these past seven years.”
