[A golden age is about to begin; ants glimpse the heavens]
In the second year of the Wude era under the Tang, the dawn of the Zhenguan era had yet to reach the frontier.
In Miquan Village, where yellow sand blotted out the sun, a ten-year-old boy and the villagers struggled to survive by selling sand and gravel. One day, he dug up a blackwood box covered in intricate patterns at home. Inside were three seeds, gleaming like glass, with the words "Spiritless" inscribed on them. Unable to read, he thought they were the last hope of life in the desert.
[One seed, and the mortal world stained red]
The boy planted a seed by the river. To his astonishment, a tender shoot burst through the earth, sending emerald light into the sky. He carried it back to the village, only to stumble upon cultivators fighting amid a sandstorm, staining the yellow sands with blood. The boy fell into a coffin in the Cleansing River. When he opened his eyes again, he was wrapped in plain clothes, and the village lay in ruins.
[Medicine-human flesh and bone, an immortality game: the story has begun...]
Forced into the world of immortal cultivation, the boy struggles to uncover the truth of his past and navigate the schemes of the prestigious orthodox sects. From a lowly ant on the frontier to one who wields a sword and questions the Dao, he tears away more than the hypocritical facade of the immortal sects. He also rips open an "immortality feast" that has been in the making for a thousand years... A tragedy called "Fate Toying with All" begins to show a hairline crack with the boy's arrival.
(When I thought the seeds in that box were the desert's last hope, the whole village had already been turned to bloody mud because of them.)
(When I thought I cultivated immortality for revenge, the furnace flames in the Danding Pavilion were already refining the three-hundredth "pill.")
(When I thought exposing the lie of immortality would set me free, the water in the Cleansing River coffin reflected a body that should have rotted long ago...)
"If immortals climb to heaven by devouring my flesh and bones, then I'll tear down the sky and cook it into soup for the ants."
