Wild God Musician? I’ll Bury Every Evil God with Folk Music!

An endless night shrouds the world, and evil spirits roam unchecked. Only the incense offerings to the gods protect humanity. But Fang Jin, who transmigrated into this world, became the most wretched kind of “wild god firebearer” at a ritual to summon a deity. Other people had sword immortals and divine kings enshrined in their shrines, but the guardian god he summoned, “Musician Yan,” had a statue that was broken and battered! That was until he played one legendary piece of traditional folk music after another, terrifying billions of ghosts! “A wild god? This one song of mine will send evil spirits straight to the afterlife!” While everyone else was still kneeling before the gods, Fang Jin cradled his pipa and played “Ambush from Ten Sides,” summoning the heroic spirits of Chu and Han to trample the eternal night. When he played “A Hundred Birds Pay Homage to the Phoenix” on his suona, the Vermilion Bird appeared and burned the evil god’s blood-red bridal gown to ash. Firebearers across the city begged on their knees: “Great God Fang, could you reserve a performance of ‘Grand Funeral’ for my grave?” Beneath the eternal night, the gods harvested incense while humanity was reduced to kindling. He shattered the Anlan Bell, staining the Jiao-Wei zither with blood. “Listen, everyone. This is ‘The Human Emperor’s Wrath’!” That day, the suona’s cry tore a rift through a hundred thousand miles of eternal night, and the gods wept on their knees as “Moonlight Over the Second Spring” laid bare every sin they had committed in their lives. When the nine incense sticks burned down and the night was consumed, Fang Jin used folk music to bury all the evil gods of the heavens. The fiercest flame has always been the indestructible notes of gong, shang, jue, zhi, and yu, burning in the bones and blood of ordinary people.
