She was an assassin. He was a scholar.
She thought that rainy night was only a brief stop during a mission. He thought the blood-soaked woman he had rescued was just someone passing through his life.
A set of pink jade hair ornaments sealed a promise for a lifetime.
But before she could wear them, she was dragged back into that cold world.
Years later, at last free of her chains, she returned to that little town to find the man she had left behind. The town was unchanged, but he was gone.
She traveled across mountains and rivers, searching for him again and again. When they finally met, the warmth in his eyes was gone.
“You came back, but you're still not home to stay. You're only passing through.”
He wanted to forgive her, but couldn't forget how she had left without a word.
She wanted to tell him the truth, but couldn't explain the blood on her hands.
It turned out some people were never just passing through.
She was coming home. It was just that the road back had been too long.
Finally found a novel that suits my appetite! The plot is not sloppy and the pacing is very well controlled. The author's writing style is smooth and the details are well described, so you won't feel out of touch at all. It has been added to the bookshelf. What I look forward to most every day is the update. Come on, I will keep chasing it! Rush rush rush.
It's worth reading. I don't know why the rating is so low. There are always princes, generals, palace concubines, or heroines who have traveled through time. Even if you write a peasant script, you have to involve the high-ranking family of the prince's family. It seems unrealistic. This novel is short and precise. It is not dramatic, but it is human. The most real sorrows and joys, partings and last resorts, and it is precisely these unsatisfactory things that lead to another outcome in the world, true perfection, the kindness and warmth in people's hearts, no exaggerated identity blessings, no fancy space and technology, just down-to-earth, sincere emotions that penetrate the heart, which are worth recalling and remembering.
This ancient romance novel is based on the extreme identity contrast between a killer and a scholar. It uses a rainy night encounter, a brief tenderness, and a long-awaited reunion to outline a sadomasochistic story full of fateful regrets. The emotions are delicate and heartbreaking, and the intention is profound. It vividly depicts the shackles of identity, the tricks of fate, and the helplessness of not being able to love.
The beginning of the story is very atmospheric: on a rainy night, a female killer on a mission, covered with scars, unexpectedly meets a gentle scholar. In the short time they got together, the killer lost his coldness and cruelty and felt the long-lost warmth. The scholar made a promise with a pink jade head and face, and the plain warmth became the most precious light in each other's hearts. This encounter was supposed to be a redemption in the dark, but it ended abruptly when the heroine was forced to return to the world of killers. The brief beauty and the subsequent separation formed a strong contrast, setting the tone of the story as sadistic yet healing.
The heroine breaks away from the shackles and travels across the mountains and rivers to find her husband. This is the most touching obsession in the film. With her desire for warmth, she returns to her original place step by step, showing the character's tenacity and affection. The line "You are not returning home after all, you are just a passer-by" after a long separation directly pushes the emotional conflict to the peak. The scholar's resentment and alienation, and the heroine's forbearance and unspeakable secrets make this relationship fall into an irresolvable deadlock.
The most brilliant part of the novel lies in its precise handling of the conflict between identity, fate and personal emotions: the heroine has a bloody past as a killer and cannot confess her involuntary actions; the scholar is trapped in the hurt of the unsaid farewell and cannot let go of his heart. The two clearly love each other deeply, but are blocked by fate and misunderstanding. The ending points out that "she is returning home, but the journey home is too long", sublimating the theme of the story and expressing the regret of not being able to love and the helplessness of fate.
Overall, the story is concise in length but full of emotions, with sharp contrasts in the characters and full tension in the plot. It uses a minimalist plot to outline the ultimate love-hate relationship, with a full sense of atmosphere and empathy. The only regret is that there is a lot of blank space in the plot, and the characters' past foreshadowing is a little subtle, but it does not affect the emotional expression at all.
This is a highly contagious short story about sadomasochism. Readers who prefer delicate emotions, a sense of fate, and the aesthetics of regret will be deeply moved by this belated reunion and unspeakable love.
This novel tells the story between a killer and a scholar. The heroine Leng Yue was adopted by the killer organization "Xuanyin Pavilion" since she was a child. When she was sixteen years old, she was injured in a mission and was rescued and brought home by Chen An, the owner of a small town calligraphy and painting shop. While recovering from her injuries, she tasted the taste of an "ordinary person" for the first time - someone cooked her porridge, bought her candied haws, taught her how to write, and put a coat on her at night. A pink jade hairpin was a lifelong promise, but she was taken away by the organization before she even had time to say goodbye.
Three years later, she broke away from everything and came back to find him. The shop was closed and the people left, leaving only a rusty copper lock.
She traveled all over the mountains and rivers to look for him, and when they met again, the warmth in his eyes when he looked at her was no longer the same as before: "Leng Yue. You don't have to apologize." She called her by her full name, not "Yue'er". A change of title fully describes three years of waiting, disappointment, and the feeling of not daring to feel any more pain.
What really moved me about this book was not cruelty or sweetness, but a kind of "restraint". Leng Yue wanted to stay but couldn't, and Chen An wanted to hate but couldn't. After the reunion, there was not an immediate reconciliation, but a mixture of careful testing, alienation, and heartache. Hong Xiao was obviously worried to death, but she still said "Are you still alive?" This kind of restraint made all emotions more weighty.
The title of the book "Gui Ren Like a Guest" itself conveys a kind of desolate poetry - Gui Ren is supposed to be a traveler returning to his hometown, but instead he "feels like a guest", with a lingering sense of alienation and wandering. This contradictory beauty almost sets the tone of the entire novel.
After reading this work, what impressed me most was its profound discussion on "return" and "alienation". The protagonists in the novel may have thought that they had found their belonging at some point, but in the end they found that they were just passers-by in front of their fate. But it is this "guest-like" state that makes every character full of real human struggles - they long to go home, but have to move on. This complex emotional tension runs throughout, making people want to put it down.
In terms of character creation, "Returning Like a Guest" is also remarkable. The characters in the book are not just paper people. Everyone has their own obsessions and weaknesses. They may not be perfect, but that's what makes them alive. The youth consumed in waiting, the suppressed throbbing during reunion, and the tears held back during parting are all narrated by the author with delicate writing style, which makes it moving to read.
This novel allowed me to see a rare quality in online literature. It does not blindly pursue the fast-paced excitement, but is willing to slow down to depict the inner world of the characters and manage the atmosphere and emotions. In this era of speed reading, this leisurely narrative rhythm is a luxury in itself.
What's even more rare is that the novel manages to be sad but not sad in its emotional expression. It describes all the gatherings and separations of life, but it does not indulge in sadness, but retains a warm undertone amidst the bitterness. Just like the title of the book suggests - even if you feel like a guest, as long as you are still on the road, there is always the possibility of returning.
All in all, "Returning Like a Guest" is a work worth calming down and reading slowly. It may not give you a hearty feeling, but it will make you immersed in the aftertaste for a long time after you close the book - about hometown, about the distance, and about those we have loved and lost.
The book is quite good, the miss and reunion between the killer and the scholar, the plot has its ups and downs but it is not bloody, the promise of the pink jade face was not fulfilled in time, and the eyes have lost their warmth after many years. This kind of regret is very restrained in writing, and it is really sad to read [I almost cried]
I have read many books one after another, and this book attracted me to read from the beginning. There are no extremely gorgeous words and no stupid plot. As I read further, I became more and more immersed and read it in one sitting. Still not satisfied. Looking forward to updates from the author
The author's writing style is really good, the description is delicate and not verbose, and the picture is very strong. The story line is clear, rich in details, and becomes more exciting as it goes on. To be able to find articles of this quality on Tomato is a treasure.
It follows a delicate and heart-warming narrative route, without any intense dramatic conflicts, but with hidden highlights everywhere. The emotions, anger, sorrow and joy of the characters are vividly depicted and can easily resonate with readers. The plot is step-by-step, the rhythm is soothing and comfortable, and the text is gentle and healing. It is very suitable for reading and savoring in your spare time.
The story of a killer and a scholar, two people who had nothing in common suddenly met, and both of them couldn't help but deviate from their originally regular paths. The trick of fate made their love journey bumpy, and it was very sad to watch.
