Sun Wukong, the Victorious Fighting Buddha, resented the Buddha Tathagata's favoritism in granting him an empty title with no real authority. He ran amok at the sacred Buddhist site of Mount Ling, so Tathagata ordered the Eighteen Arhats to seal away Sun Wukong's powers and memories, then banished him to the mortal world to relieve the people's suffering and rid him of the demonic remnants of his untamed nature. In the late 1970s, he was born into a poor Yao family in Yaojiawan Village, Fumin Town, Qiushan County. His name was Yao Changlin, and his childhood nickname was Dashengwa. His parents were illiterate, honest, down-to-earth farmers. Not one of his ancestors in the previous eight generations had been an official or a wealthy man. Perhaps there was not a single good gene in his family, condemning generation after generation to a life of grinding poverty. He was rebellious from childhood. His parents did not want to send him to school, but he loved reading; they told him they were fated to be poor and there was no point exhausting himself, but he refused to accept his lot and was determined to change their circumstances... He worked as a farmer digging fields, roamed the country selling worthless medicinal plasters, and went into business... After enduring countless hardships, in just 20 years he rose from an obscure commoner to become one of the world's top three on the Forbes rich list.
