Synopsis

The story of Nezha Conquering the Dragon King is an ancient Chinese myth. Nezha, the son of Li Jing, the commander of Chentang Pass, was born after his mother carried him for three years and six months. He emerged as a ball of flesh, and was later taken on as a disciple by the Immortal Taiyi, who gave him magical treasures such as the Universe Ring and the Sky-Mixing Sash. One day, Nezha was playing and bathing by the Eastern Sea when he waved the Sky-Mixing Sash, causing the Dragon Palace to shake. The sea patrol yaksha came to investigate and behaved arrogantly, so Nezha killed him with the Universe Ring. Ao Bing, the third prince of the Eastern Sea Dragon King, hurried over when he heard the news and fought Nezha, but Nezha killed him too and tore out his dragon sinew. When the Eastern Sea Dragon King learned that his son had been killed, he flew into a rage and went to Chentang Pass to confront Li Jing. He threatened to flood the pass unless Li Jing handed over Nezha. To protect his parents and the people, Nezha chose to cut the flesh from his body to repay his mother and sever his bones to repay his father, taking his own life. After his death, the Immortal Taiyi helped Nezha's soul rebuild its body from lotus roots and leaves, bringing him back to life. The Eastern Sea Dragon King still sought revenge, so Nezha took the fight to him and defeated him. In the end, the Dragon King gave up his evil ways, and the people of Chentang Pass were able to live in peace.
