[Sentinel/Guide + hardworking heroine + devoted, domineering yet obedient hero + 1v1 + original worldbuilding]
After waiting a thousand years, the nine-tailed fox hero Wu Wang finally meets the heroine, Jiang Tang, in the Sentinel/Guide era. Her soul transmigrates into the body of Jiang Tang, an undifferentiated mermaid. She was originally supposed to differentiate into a male Sentinel, but instead becomes a female Guide. He pretends it was love at first sight, keeping his feelings buried, obedient and clingy. When the heroine enters his mindscape to soothe him, he learns the truth about what happened a thousand years ago. He confesses his feelings, and together they face the insectoid invasion. Just as the heroine awakens her eligibility as a Siren candidate, she learns that the Sirens used up their divine power ahead of time to put the insectoids' strongest forces to sleep for her sake. She has only one year, so she must grow stronger as quickly as possible.
Along the way, she meets Feng Zhe, a Phoenix Sentinel who can be a little calculating but is a good person.
E Zhi, a goofy-faced, perpetually deadpan alligator snapping turtle Sentinel.
Da Mie, a milk-colored cat who usually appears in beast form.
Her “older brother,” Qin Ye, who hides his possessive streak and keeps it in check around her.
The pacing is rather slow from the start, and the plot gets a little confusing at times.
