A Republic-era romance unfolds around the celebrated painting Spring Outing. Painted by the Sui Dynasty artist Zhan Ziqian, Spring Outing is the earliest surviving Chinese landscape painting, and is nearly 1,400 years old. It was created 360 years before A Thousand Li of Rivers and Mountains and 500 years before Along the River During the Qingming Festival. Ancient people entrusted their spirit to calligraphy and painting.
