The Cases of Longtu Pavilion

The Dragon-Illustrated Cases, also known as The Cases of Judge Bao, is a collection of courtroom tales compiled by An Yushi during the Ming dynasty. The book consists of dozens of short stories about Judge Bao solving cases, with twists and turns that keep readers engrossed. Through the series of cases he tries, the book portrays Bao as an incorruptible and upright official. It also praises the kind and loyal while condemning the wicked and greedy. The work not only showcases Bao's wisdom and fairness, but also reflects the dark side of society at the time, including official corruption and the lawlessness of powerful clans. Some stories, such as “The Black Basin” and “The Ghost's Mill,” are strange and suspenseful, showing how Bao uses his wit and courage to crack difficult cases. Although the book includes some feudal superstitions, its criticism of social realities and pursuit of justice give it an important place in literary history.
