Crazy Journey to the West: Reborn as the Black Bear Spirit, Still Stuck Working

[A fresh Tomato-style story, not a formulaic one]

Chen Chao was a modern college student crushed by the pressure of his studies. After dozing off in the library, he inexplicably transmigrated into the Black Bear Spirit from Journey to the West. In this utterly wild version of Journey to the West, the Heavenly Court had run out of positions, so it established the City of Ten Thousand Demons to keep an eye on monsters whose cultivation met the requirements. They had to earn immortal merit by working before they could hope to ascend. Chen Chao had no choice but to stay in the city, laboring mechanically every day as he waited anxiously for news of an official post.

After slogging away for a long time, one day the Heavenly Court officials finally issued a special work assignment that could earn him a position: the Eighty-One Trials. As a modern man familiar with the story of Journey to the West, Chen Chao knew exactly what the "Eighty-One Trials" meant. He understood that if he completed the assignment, he would be entered directly into the register of immortals and become an official deity of the Heavenly Court. Filled with both hope and trepidation, Chen Chao resolutely threw himself into the task, and an unknown adventure was about to begin.
