The Secret to Happiness

On a quiet night, moonlight spilled into the room. Lying in bed, a little girl asked her mother curiously, “Mom, what does happiness look like? Is it a room full of toys, or endless snacks?” Her mother smiled and stroked her head. “Happiness is like a little treasure hidden in the corners of everyday life. You have to look for it with your heart. To me, having our family together, sharing our love and affection, and immersing ourselves in human civilization is the greatest happiness.” The girl pressed on. “What does family bliss mean?” Patiently, her mother explained, “It means staying by each other’s side for a long time, comforting one another, sharing in joy, overcoming hardships together, and never giving up on each other.” The girl asked again, “What does genuine human kindness mean?” Her mother took her hand. “When others are good to you, you should be good to them too. Cherish and repay their kindness, and you’ll feel the warmth of sincere affection.” “Then what is human civilization? What does it have to do with happiness?” Her mother smiled. “Human civilization is like a treasure trove that never runs empty. You can find it in storybooks, art, and music. It helps people learn, understand what’s right, and enrich their hearts.” The girl asked worriedly, “What would happen if we didn’t have these wonderful things?” Her mother replied seriously, “Without them, no amount of toys or snacks could make us happy. Without family love, we’d be lonely. Without human kindness, the world would be cold. Without human civilization, life would be dull.” “Then how do we find happiness?” Her mother smiled. “Happiness is hidden in life’s little details. Cherish the time you spend with your family, offer others a helping hand, read more books, and appreciate art. Feel everything with your heart and love, and you’ll find the secret to happiness.” The girl smiled happily. “Mom, I get it! From now on, I’ll look for happiness with all my heart!”
