Springtime in the Distance

A few days before I was to marry the Third Prince, he changed his mind and decided to wed Wanwan, my father's illegitimate daughter.

My father was overjoyed. He brought Wanwan into the family estate, entered her under my mother's name, and declared her my legitimate younger sister.

The Third Prince told me, "Your good name is renowned, and you're the very model of a noblewoman. Your father is a Minister of Revenue, and your maternal grandfather is the richest man in Jiangnan. Even if you don't become my principal wife, no one would dare look down on you."

"Once we've been married for three months, I'll bring you into the palace as my secondary consort."

He probably didn't know that back then, his mother, Consort Shu, had gone to great lengths to arrange his marriage to me not because I was the finest among noblewomen or because of my father's official rank, but because my maternal grandfather was the richest man in Jiangnan.

After hearing his words, I went and canceled the marriage contract the very next day.

Finding another husband would be easy enough. After all, he wasn't the only prince vying for the throne.
