Synopsis of The Feud at the Village Head: Lanzhi’s husband died young, leaving her to raise their three sons to adulthood. The eldest, Fucang, makes a fortune running a quarry, but constantly clashes with his partner, Erguai, over their conflicting interests. The second son, Youtian, is honest and dependable, but his wife Guiling is domineering. After graduating from high school, the youngest, Junlin, spends some time living in the countryside. Experiencing firsthand the hardships of rural life and the complexity of human relationships, he falls in love with Xiaoyan, the village accountant Musheng’s daughter, but her family looks down on him, and the two break up. Youtian goes away to work and develops an ambiguous relationship with his coworker Huilan. Their neighbor Haitao finds out and returns home to tell Youtian’s wife, Lina, sparking a conflict between Youtian and Guiling. Just as Fucang is getting his business off the ground, he borrows 500 yuan from Tiechui. He tries to repay it several times but never gets the chance. Guiling assumes her brother-in-law has no intention of paying him back, and a serious misunderstanding develops between the brothers. Erguai retaliates against Fucang, and Guiling sacrifices herself. Two years later, Haitao takes on a construction project outside the village, while Lina opens a school for left-behind children. Weiwei gets into university, while Xiaohong fails her entrance exams and becomes a teacher at Lina’s school. Youtian raises ornamental saplings at home. Fucang has closed the quarry and moved into the transportation business. After earning his master’s degree, Junlin returns to the village to develop it. After being released from prison, Erguai continues to feud with Fucang, but Fucang foils each of his schemes. Jinshan loses the election for village Party secretary, and the village accountant, Musheng, is elected in his place. Junlin marries Musheng’s daughter Xiaoyan. Fucang consults with Musheng and uses Erguai’s illegal stone mining as grounds to terminate his contract with the village. Erguai holds a grudge and keeps causing trouble, but fails to get his way. Haitao dies in an accident, and his wife Lina finds happiness with their neighbor Youtian.
It's so great to listen to, every character created is vivid, and the interesting and painful experiences that happened to them seem to be happening in front of our eyes, which makes the audience feel very emotional. I recommend everyone to sign up for the book together!
