Qing Ge, a third-generation Emei disciple, joins the Qingcheng disciple Liu Xiao to slay demons and exorcise evil. They encounter a seven-leaf ginseng spirit and summon the Great Immortal Maiden Bai Yao from the Golden Palace in the Celestial Court to help it. But the ginseng spirit is too willful, and the Ghost King of Shu Mountain captures and devours it, greatly increasing his power. He then commands countless skeletons to attack Kunlun Mountain, Qingcheng, and Emei.
During the attack on Emei, Bai Mei accidentally opens the Blood Cavern. The Blood Demon hiding inside a skeleton seizes the chance to slip into the cavern and begins nurturing the Nascent Soul that will serve as its Host. Once the Blood Demon's Nascent Soul emerges from the Blood Cavern, it uses the Soundwave Palace's magical treasure, the Nine Suns Needle Vessel, to strengthen its primordial spirit with the Nine Suns Fierce Poison. After offending the divine ibis of Wuyou Ridge, it heads to the Baiyue region.
Meanwhile, Qing Ge also travels to Baiyue to hone his skills, where he and the Nascent Soul unexpectedly cross paths. Driven by its desire to rule the three realms, the Nascent Soul successively kills the Ghost King of Shu Mountain, Old Man Zhuanghuo, Bodhisattva Huaguang, the Five-Light Buddha of Fire, and Zhuangzhi Mountain of the Qingyun Sect, figures from both the righteous and demonic factions. It also resorts to despicable methods to eliminate the Holy Maiden of Soundwave Palace.
Only then does the Nascent Soul truly turn its attention to the Emei disciples. It imprisons Zibi in a cave and uses her to threaten Emei. Qing Ge has already drawn the Azure Sword's giant blade, and to destroy the Blood Demon's Nascent Soul, he and Chunsheng head to the Lunar Star to find a magical treasure specifically designed to subdue Nascent Souls.
