Autumn deepened, dusk settled, and a cold wind swept by, chilling the watery darkness of night. The car sped along West Outer Ring Road before turning onto Youth Road. From the Mingcheng Hotel south to Jinyi Lake, the road stretched for miles, lined on both sides with streetwalkers sending flirtatious glances to passing men.
Zhang Ke slowed down, a cigarette dangling from the corner of his mouth as his gaze roamed the sidewalks beneath the night sky. Under the streetlights' greedy glare, the women's cleavage and long legs appeared and disappeared like melting snow. Du Fei was animated beside him, teasing, “They say some of them are top-notch cross-dressers. How can you tell?” Several women approached, waving two fingers seductively. They could not hear the whispers behind their parted red lips from inside the car. Du Fei nearly pressed his eyes against the window as he appraised them. “For just two hundred yuan, you can have a good time. They really are quite attractive.”
“You're just giving them a chance to make money...” Zhang Ke joked.
“Bullshit!” Du Fei snapped, like a cat whose tail had been stepped on. “I was pure for half my life, and you ruined it all!”
Zhang Ke burst out laughing.
