Set against the historical transition from the Shang to the Zhou dynasty during the time of the Investiture of the Gods, this book tells of the early days of chaos, when the Bodhi Patriarch, born from the first Bodhi tree created at the dawn of the world, appeared. By then, the universe was already home to many deities. The Heavenly Venerable of Primordial Beginning therefore hoped to use King Wu's campaign against King Zhou as an opportunity to establish a complete system of gods and immortals.
