A New Myth: The Human Emperor

What is an immortal?

In everyone’s eyes, immortals are practically invincible, beyond the reach of ordinary people.

But what if I told you that immortals are people, too?

“Immortal” is simply what we call a certain kind of person.

They stand above the world, seeing farther and hearing more clearly.

From the peaks of the mountains, they look down over the mortal world and all its people.

They protect countless lives and the lights in countless homes.

But once, they were ordinary people, too.

They have children and loved ones. There are people waiting for them to come home, even if that wait will never end.

Some say: “Shouldn’t immortals stand aloof from the world? Shouldn’t they be above all living things? Shouldn’t they enjoy wealth and luxury in the celestial palace?”

Then let me tell you this: the ranks of gods and immortals have never belonged to Heaven alone.

Here in the human world, there is a group of people who have given up their happiness among mortals and cast aside worldly fame and status.

Day after day, they toil to keep their people safe. Year after year, they conceal their names and silently protect everyone.

Perhaps you have caught a glimpse of them.

Perhaps it was a flying sword, a bolt of heavenly lightning, or a blurry silhouette among the clouds…

The struggle for survival, the primordial chaos, the Three Lives and Nine Realms: they have always been cruel.

The peace you see is a home they have fought with their lives to protect.

Today, when people around the world are divided, when everyone scrambles for fame and profit, when people stand opposed to one another, when humanity is lost and uncertain…

Today, when not one of the immortals who protected this world has survived.

I believe it is time to make their deeds known to the world.

The Dao Immortals truly did all they could…
