As Though Moonlight Came from Another Life

Five years into our marriage, I discovered that my husband, who had always cherished me, was keeping another woman outside our home.

She was young and delicate, nothing like me.

Everyone egged him on. “Since Your Highness likes Yanniang, why not bring her back to the manor and keep her by your side every day?”

His expression darkened, and he snapped, “I swore an oath before the Buddha.”

“I will take no concubines or secondary wives in this life. The princess consort alone is enough for me.”

But the woman wouldn’t let it go. She flirted in his arms, and before long, the two of them were kissing passionately.

“But the princess consort is so proper. Yanniang is more to my taste.”

Hearing his drunken sigh, I held back my tears and fled in disarray.

So it was true: the moonlight that once seemed so precious could really become a tasteless grain of rice.

If that was how it had to be, I would leave this world and never see you again, in life or death...
